Over the past few weeks I have watched so many of us try our best to adjust to the new normal that COVID-19 has forced upon us. In the midst of social distancing and families staying home, there is one thing that has stood out to me.

We often rely on our busy schedules to silence the cry of our soul that longs for significance.

As I put my kids to bed one night and sat on my sofa, for the first time in a long time I had nothing to do. I thought to myself, “this will be amazing!”, until the silence in the house magnified the loud cry of my neglected soul. I could feel the emptiness of life without my busy schedule and responsibilities. It was like a huge void of purpose and meaning. It was absolutely terrifying.

After a few deep breathes I began walking around my living room praying and telling God that I needed to experience His presence. You see, it had been a while since I had taken the time to give God my undivided attention. My soul was starving for significance that could only be found in Him. One minute in the presence of God had changed my entire trajectory.

I am sharing my story today because I believe transparency is the only way to having honest conversations that will provoke lasting change in our hearts. As Christians we would like to believe that we have the wonders of life figured out but that is far from the truth. We say things like, “if I just serve more”, or “if I just pray more”, or “if I gave more”, or “if I was better at” but the fact of the matter is that God provided all that we need at the cross. We are because He is….. Everything else is secondary. He is the one that we must chase. He is the goal and the prize.

“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” - John 15:4

I want to encourage you today that as we continue this time by ourselves with our families, chase after God and found significance in Him. Rest in His presence by knowing that He loves you where you are and that He is with you and for you.

Live your best life!
