Have you ever revered someone or something? Recently I revisited my childhood by watching a documentary on the Chicago bulls and Michael Jordan. Growing up, MJ was my hero. I was mesmerized by the talent, fame, and most of all, the shoes. Like the rest of the world, I wanted to be like Mike, however, just like the rest of the world we saw the highlight reels but never the journey he traveled to become Michael “Air Jordan”. What we didn’t see was the late night training. Being cut from his high school team. The miss shots. Tragically loosing his father and the list goes on.
As I watched the documentary, I learned that life is not as much about the destination as it is the journey. You see, we all have ambitious goals and dreams that we hope to one day accomplish but in the mean time, we are becoming someone or something. You and I are not the same person that we use to be. Life has a way of shaping us and God often uses both our triumphs and failures to mold us into the most wonderful people we can become.
Sometimes the journey is where pain and regret happens but it is also where love grows. In every season of life, God is there speaking to us, guiding us, and building in us eternal values but it all happens in the journey.
"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end".
You may not be where or who you want to be today but one thing is for sure, you are not who you use to be. His mercies are new every morning for you and I so let us embrace the journey. God is with us and for us.
