Love is a powerful thing because it motivates us, drives us, and guides us through life. It is our compass that helps us find our north in the midst of the storm. It is not simply an emotion but a commitment to your spouse, to your integrity, and ultimately to Christ. Recently I had a person jokingly tell me that the leading cause for divorce is marriage. So I laughed and told him that unfortunately the leading cause for marriage is emotion.
The truth is that there will be times when our emotions support our actions and other times when our emotions are MIA. What keeps a marriage together is the deeper more intimate part of love and that is devotion. Our devotion to our spouse is both a constant choice of commitment to each other and to Christ. Love must be the unwavering truth that governs our marriage.
